We are once again off for another travel adventure. This time we will head to the island of Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands for two week to assist in the celebration of my buddy Hugh's 67th birthday. Some preliminary planning has taken place with some sewing classes already booked! Meal planning started in Italy last September... well sort of!
I am planning a low speed, relaxing vacation with friends and will report as I am able on the lead up to the birthday festivities... I suspect some crib games will dominate the social scene in and around our accommodations.
Our flight arrives late on the 12th and we will plan to get our rental and hit the 24 hour Safeway along our route. More to follow....
Jumped on our Westjet Encore flight following a nice "vacation kick off" beverage at the Spiniker Bar at CYYJ.
On arrival in Vancouver, we headed over to the US customs pre-clearance area and technically entered the US of A. This will allow us to simply get off the plane in Lihue and go.

We quickly got through with no delay. We walked over towards the departure gate and found the Canuck's Bar& Grill. We had a bite and then met up with Hugh & Simone and Heather and Emile.
We all got reacquainted and chatted until it was time to board our flight. We pushed at 18:12 and airborne for Lihue at 18:29. Both Kelly and I watched movies/shows on our ipads and relaxed as best we could. Generally a smooth flight and we arrived almost 45 minutes early.Bonus!
On the ground in Lihue at 21:44 local. We grabbed our bags and jumped in an Uber. Emile had arranged for transportation for them to the house in Anahola so we would meet up with them later.
We took our Uber over to the Turo lot near Costco and picked up our rental, a 2020 Dodge Caravan. Off to Safeway which was conveniently located on Hwy 56 towards the house.
After grabbing some food basics along with beer, wine & coolers, we were informed by the checkout lady that liquor rules forbid the sale of alcohol after 11pm… it was 11:15 local. Arrgh! No cold beer for us!
Oh well what can you do. A short drive later we arrived at our accommodations at 11:42 local time. Unloaded the van and checked out the house. Huge rooms with a spacious living area all with lovely beach views through the large glass windows. Dark but just enough light to get a pic!
Kelly and I were assigned a gorgeous upstairs room with a huge en-suite. Amazing...
It's late and we are all tired... off to the rack. Costco run tomorrow and I'll add some pics of the place as well.
